- JKfaces2 is a 256 color graphics show/screen saver for
- VGA/SVGA. It displays eight small 256 color pictures of some
- very pretty faces at random screen locations using many special
- effects. It is not a memory resident program so it must be
- started manually. It also must be started from the directory
- in which it resides. It is designed as bannerware, that is a
- fully functional demo of our other programs and services. You
- are free to use it for personal use, and to distribute it as
- long as you include this file (jkfaces2.doc) and jkorder.doc
- with it.
- The program will detect most VGA boards that support
- 640x480x256 SVGA. If your board does not display in that
- resolution, or if the program does not recognize your board as
- accepting that resolution, it will default to 320x200x256. The
- pictures will be the same size (1/16 of the screen), but grainier.
- PROBLEMS: VESA support has been added to the programs. This
- can cause problems with some older boards. If the program does not
- try to display, or tries to and displays only lines, use the 'n'
- parameter. For example, "jkroses n". This will bypass the check
- for VESA compatibility. If all else fails, try the 'v' parameter,
- "JKFACES2 v" for example. This forces standard VGA mode (320x200).
- I apologize to those who have been inconvenienced by this, but I
- have not been able to try out every SVGA board out there.
- Currently available are four similar screensavers that are
- being released as "shareware". All can be purchased directly from
- KING SOFTWARE.
- Currently available are: JKROSES ($8) - sixteen gorgeous roses
- of all colors and varieties. JKBOSOMS 2 ($8) - a real labor of love.
- Sixteen pictures of beautiful bosoms for the man who can't see
- too many. R-rated, but tasteful. JKBUNS ($7) - Twelve delightful
- bottoms. JKBOSOMS 3 ($15)- 48(!) gorgeous bosoms. JKBOSOMS 3 is
- available on high density disks only. (3.5" or 5.25") The others
- are available on 3.5" or 5.25" double or high density. If no choice
- is indicated, 5.25"HD will be sent. The programs are also available
- in 16 color EGA versions. They use a dithering technique that makes
- images that you can't believe are only 16 colors. See the order form.
- JKBUNS, JKBOSOMS 2, & JKBOSOMS 3 contain nudity. You must be
- eighteen or older to order.
- Also available in 256 color and 16 color versions is JKBOSOMS 1024,
- with 16 images of beautiful bosoms in glorious 1024x768 resolution.
- The 256 color version ($13) requires a VESA compatible SVGA board with
- least 1 meg video memory. The 16 color version ($10) requires a VESA
- compatible SVGA board with at least 512k video memory.
- Send check or money order to the address listed below.
-
- Some improvements over previous JK screen savers (JKBOSOMS and
- JKFACES1): - more pictures - totally random, the pattern does
- not repeat - more special effects - exits faster (the latest version
- exits very fast) - uses expanded memory if available and needed.
- The new versions also will use extended memory if available and needed.
- They no longer support using the hard disk as memory, since that just
- slowed down loading and displaying way too much. If you have less than
- 480k (approximately) of conventional, extended, and/or expanded, you
- will get an error message saying "not enough memory to load image".

-
- But that is not all. I can do this for you with your
- pictures. Have your own personal or company screen savers made up
- with pictures of yourself, your family, pets, club activities,
- company products, personnel, or just about anything. They can
- contain four, eight, twelve, sixteen, 32 or 48 pictures. (We can also
- discuss customization.) The pictures can be in horizontal and/or
- vertical resolution. You will receive one copy and be free to make
- duplicates up to the number that you have licensed. Of course I am
- relying on your honesty here. If you like the product, please
- support it.

- personal screen saver along with your payment to:
-
- KING SOFTWARE
- 1200 Jones Drive
- Salem, OH 44460
-
- Since some photographs don't scan as well as others, you may
- want to enclose a couple of extra shots clearly marked for use as
- alternates if there is a problem with any of your original choices.
- Any photo size up to 8x12 inches will be OK. I have had very good
- luck with 3 1/2 x 5 inch. Your photos will be returned to you with
- your disks.
- Please state the title you wish to have on your screen show,
- or specify no title. Also, what do you want the EXE file to be
- named, eight letter maximum?
- The images will be embedded in the EXE file, and are about
- 160x120 in size. If you would like any of the images separately in
- 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480, or 320 x200 formats, see the order form
- for prices. Image formats available are PCX, GIF, or BMP, but if you
- need a different format, I can get you about anything. I can also now
- do TRUE COLOR scans in Windows BMP, TGA, and TIF formats. Your system
- must be able to display TRUE COLOR images to use these. Note that these
- images are huge, three times the size of 256 color images. See the
- order form for prices.
-
- NOTE: If you would like larger images in your custom screen
- saver, I can do it for you, but.... Images 1-1/2 times as high and
- wide take double the memory. So eight images would take as much memory
- as sixteen smaller images. Images twice the heighth and width (half
- the heighth and width of the screen) take four times as much memory as
- the smaller images. So four images would take as much memory as
- sixteen smaller images. Plus a few of the newer display functions will
- not work with too large an image, so they will be disabled. If you
- want the larger images, state whether you want them to be 1-1/2 times
- as large or twice as large. Add the appropriate surcharge as listed
- above. If you want more than eight 1-1/2 images or four double images,
- they will be switched in and out memory in banks of eight or four. Note
- above that there are limits as to how many of the larger images can be
- in one program. A couple of the special effects seen in the JKprograms
- are disabled in the custom screen savers. They are only the ones that
- don't look good with faces (the horizontal squish functions) or a couple
- that either won't fit on the screen or cause overlapping with oversized
- images.
- EGA PROGRAMS:
- These custom programs can also be made into 16 color EGA versions.
- A dithering technique is used creating very nice 16 color images that look
- like 256 colors, but somewhat grainier than the 256 color version. But
- they are very, very nice for EGA. The same prices apply. Please mark
- your order as EGA, or VGA will be sent.
-
- If you would just prefer to have your photos turned into
- computer images, I would be happy to do that for you too. See the
- order form for prices.
-
- Please state disk size and density preferred. If you have any
- questions or comments, please write to me at the above address. I
- will be glad to hear from you. Allow 3 - 4 weeks for delivery of
- scanned images, but I will try to get them to you sooner.

- The Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP):
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- In the early days of shareware there were no real standards.
- Independent authors had no efficient way to learn from each other
- or to work together to improve the overall image of shareware.
- There was no system in place to ensure that users were treated
- fairly and professionally. There was no way for users to find an
- address for an author who had moved. In short, the shareware
- community was disorganized and each author did things the way he
- or she thought was best. It was clear that if shareware was ever
- to become a viable and respected marketing alternative, there had
- to be some standardization. There had to be some guidelines to
- best serve the users.
-
- In 1987 a handful of shareware authors founded the Association of
- Shareware Professionals (ASP). In forming this industry
- association, these shareware authors had several primary goals in
- mind, including:
-
- o To inform users about shareware programs and about
- shareware as a method of distributing and marketing
- software.
-
- o To foster a high degree of professionalism among shareware
- authors by setting programming, marketing, and support
- standards for ASP members to follow.
-
- o To encourage broader distribution of shareware through
- user groups and disk dealers who agree to identify and
- explain the nature of shareware.
-
- o To assist members in marketing their software.
-
- o To provide a forum through which ASP members may
- communicate, share ideas, and learn from each other.
-
- The newly formed Association of Shareware Professionals worked
- together to draft a code of ethics for all present and future
- members. This code of ethics included several requirements that
- soon became very popular among users (customers), including:
-
- o A member's program (evaluation version) could not be
- limited (crippled) in any way. In the true spirit of
- Try-Before-You-Buy, users must be able to evaluate all the
- features in a program before paying the registration fee.
-
- o Members must respond to every registration. At the very
- least they must send a receipt for the payment.
-
- o Members must provide technical support for their products
- for at least 90 days from the date of registration.
-
- A new system was put in place to help ensure that users were
- treated fairly and professionally. If a user was unable to
- resolve a problem with a member author then the user could
- contact the ASP Ombudsman with their complaint. The Ombudsman
- would then try to help resolve the dispute. For more complete
- details regarding the Ombudsman, please refer to the "ASP
- Ombudsman Statement" below (page 8).
-
- As of March, 1991, the ASP had over 300 author members and almost
- 200 vendor members, with new members joining every week.
-
- Contacting ASP Members Via CompuServe:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- There is an easy and convenient way to speak directly to many ASP
- Members (both authors and vendors). Visit the shareware forum on
- CompuServe. Simply type "GO SHAREWARE", "GO SHARE", or "GO
- ASPFORUM" from any CompuServe ! prompt.
-
- Here you will be able to talk to the authors of your favorite
- shareware programs, learn about other programs, ask questions,
- make suggestions, and much more. We'd love to meet you online,
- please come visit us today!
-
- Author Address Changes:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- People move. Forwarding orders expire. What can you do?
-
- "I got a copy of a shareware program written by an ASP Member.
- I sent in the registration fee and the post office returned my
- letter saying that it was undeliverable. Now what do I do?"
-
- If the author has moved then chances are very good that you have
- an old version of the program. This is another situation that
- the ASP can help you to resolve. ASP Members are required to
- keep the ASP informed of address changes. If you need to obtain
- the current address for a member, simply write to the following
- address:
-
- ASP Executive Director
- 545 Grover Road
- Muskegon, MI 49442-9427
- U.S.A.
-
- or send a CompuServe message via CompuServe MAIL to ASP Executive
- Director 72050,1433. You may also FAX your request to the ASP
- Executive Director at 616-788-2765.
-
- ASP Ombudsman Statement:
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- This program is produced by a member of the Association of
- Shareware Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the
- shareware principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve
- a shareware-related problem with an ASP member by contacting the
- member directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can
- help you resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but
- does not provide technical support for members' products.
-
- Please write to the ASP Ombudsman at:
-
- ASP Ombudsman
- 545 Grover Road
- Muskegon, MI 49442-9427
- U.S.A.
-
- or send a CompuServe message via CompuServe MAIL to ASP Ombudsman
- 70007,3536.
